What is a clean workbench?
A clean workbench is a laminar flow cabinet or similar enclosure that provides filtered air on the work surface to prevent contamination. Clean workbenches were created to complement cleanroom technology and are now widely used in industries such as research, manufacturing, aerospace, bioscience, pharmaceutical production, and food processing. Many medical preparations are carried out on a clean workbench
What is the function of a clean workbench?
A clean workbench is used for non hazardous materials that require clean, particle free air to avoid contamination. A clean workbench is different from a biosafety cabinet in that it protects the work on the workbench, but does not protect personnel or the surrounding environment from the impact of aerosols generated on the workbench.
Why laminar flow?
The clean workbench is equipped with vertical or horizontal laminar flow. Both configurations provide unidirectional velocity along parallel streamlines. Simply put, all air within the range of the workbench flows in a single direction without backwashing, typically in turbulent areas generated by obstacles, equipment, or motion inside the clean workbench enclosure. Appropriate shell design helps prevent backwashing and ensures that vertical or horizontal airflow continues to protect the surface of the clean workbench. The vertical clean bench guides HEPA filtered air downwards to the work area to provide ISO5 level conditions and protect your work from particulate pollution. The applications of clean workbenches include pharmaceutical composites, plant tissue culture, substrate preparation, electronic inspection, medical equipment assembly, etc. Because they do not provide protection for users, vertical clean workbenches should not be used with biohazardous materials, toxins, or radioactive nuclides.
Air Science Vertical and Horizontal Laminar Flow Clean Workbench
The laminar flow cabinet is designed to maximize performance and efficiency. The vertical laminar flow cabinet is manufactured with rear wall perforations to reduce turbulence by removing a small amount of air from the rear of the cabinet. The airflow of the horizontal laminar flow cabinet does not directly impact the working surface or encounter turbulence, but smoothly passes through the working surface. The laminar flow cabinet maintains an airflow velocity of 0.35-0.45m/s (70-90fpm) through ULPA filters, which meets safety and performance standards. The horizontal clean workbench can guide HEPA filtered air horizontally to the work area and filter PCR shells with purifiers. They are vertical clean workbenches designed specifically for polymerase chain reaction.
